I didn't just want to do the normal "lulz! fooled ya" type April Fools joke this year, so I'm trying something a little different. The Cybertron cityscape you see before you is populated with Autobots and Decepticons. Now, some of these bots are actually in Transformers Animated season 3, and that's no joke. But, of course, some of them are not.

LEon, these aren't necessarily spoilers. Not many people have seen all of season 3 yet. These are April Fools characters. The only ones that are definitely in the cartoon are Rodimus, Spittor and Shockwave (but currently not in those colours).
I believe Spittor's head is different though and we get to now see Rodimus Prime's (awesome but un-winnebago-of-doom) alt mode.
Mr. Wyatt, I was wondering if you could voice your thoughts on the last two leaked episodes of TFA season 3 - "Where is Thy Sting?" and "Five Servos of Doom." I enjoyed Five Servos of Doom immensely but I heard (actually, Vangelus said this) that Cartoon Network put them on their website early, unlinked to and got hacked. Did this happen both times, has the problem been resolved and how did you feel about this happening?
Also, what was up with Jazz instead of Jetstorm, about 15 minutes through "Where is Thy Sting?" because it was definitely Jazz standing there (when he was actually still driving with Sentinel, Optimus and Ratchet)?
And I forgot to mention the whole Mario/Luigi thing with Huffer and Pipes. But VinzMeister beat me to it (and reminded me after I forgot). I really hope those two appear though. They look so fantastic.

Derrick: I was going to say I was jealous of Vangelus (Van-jealous? Hmm...), but on second thought, nah. :-) Grandus...actually has feet! Looks like he'd still need treads to move, though. Sky Garry looks sharp. Botanica looks slinky, as she should. Zaur just makes me pine a wee bit more for Double-Cassettebot reissues. Slapper's head has a sort of Trapjaw vibe to it. Sundor looks surprisingly G1-esque compared to the usual level of stylization given to the other designs. I notice he's got TFA-Laserbeak's guitar deco. So which is standard and which is bass? Flip-Sides...I wonder if Hirofumi Ichikawa knows about this page?
Oh, and should we give any attention to the cassette-spool-style markings on the tower in the center background?
Maybe next year, Doug! That tower isn't Soundwave's apartment on Cybertron or anything. If that's what you're asking.

Because I got up at six this morning to take my brother to the bus stop, with nothing to look foreward to but a nice, relaxing morning with coffee and TFA reruns. Little did I know that Cartoon Network had other plans.
ReplyDeleteAt six o'clock, they started playing something that I can only assume was the "Chowder" theme song. I was taken aback but then reasoned that it must be a mini clip and TFA would air after three minutes of random. Oh no, I was severely mistaken.
After the theme song aired, I flashed back to my childhood as an episode of "Cow and Chicken" aired. I watched it, hoping for TFA after they were done. To my horror, a little tag popped up during the show saying : "Happy April Fools Day!"
It has been nearly two hours since then and episodes of "Cow and Chicken" continue to air.
So thank you very much sir for making a bad TFA-less morning fantastic. And a very Merry April Fools Day to you too!

No, seriously. BEAUTIFLUOUS! This is proof that we need you to design an all-Cybertron sequel show to TFA! Love Grandus, Flip Sides, Guar! The rest are great too. Is that not Springer next to flower lady? And, um... Vangelus? Meh... The toy would have no articulation. I would only buy if it was all-chromed.
Botanica looks great. The way you design it, I actually would watch Beast wars/Beast Machines because you make them not ugly!
This is a big tease to those of us who love your style Derrick. If he's not in show, I'm DYING to see your version of Metroplex. Please draw it and post it someday?!! You don't have to color it :)

Takara certainly has a long and storied history of giving terrible names to Transformers, but Sky Garry is really a standout. "Every Saturday, join the adventures of the All-Terrain Team - Sky Garry, Sea Larry, and Land Darryl!"

Inspired, I've recently given a shot at designing an Animated character myself. People have told me to show it to you. Alright! Botanica! We need more love for Beast Machines' original characters. From the show I guess so far we are left with Obsidian, Thrust, Tankor.....PULVERISE!!!!, Nightscream...ok...I'm sure we could live without a new Nightscream, and Savage/Noble not getting Animated homages.

The Japanese names are the best. Hellbat, Sky Garry, Grandus, Death Cross, Interstellar Death King. Oh man. So good. We just have to realize we'll never be that cool.

ReplyDeleteRight back to reality. I will PAY to see Sky Garry in this show now. Hard to believe that I didn't really care for the guy until I saw him drawn in Animated style. Also love the Botanica shout-out. For the only character so far w/ a plant-based alt-mode, she gets almost no respect.
And you just KNOW that a toy is going to be made out of Slapper there.

ReplyDeleteI think, in fact, that Eric from Hasbro did a rough of Rodimus, then we passed it on to Byron to beef it up a little. I don't usually do alt modes, unless they are animals or say guitars and keytars, things like that. Definitely no cars. I can't draw cars at all. It's pathetic.

The size variety in that splash page is amazing. Wow. either some of those bots are downright itty bitty or there's some massive cybertronians. Rodimus helps give a size comparison. Man Shockwave is tall.

ReplyDeleteSeriously, try to fit Botanica into this show somehow. Like I said, she really doesn't get much respect for the only Transformer to have a plant for an alt-mode.
Hello, I would like it if you had Rattrap, Cheetor, and Silverbolt (wolf/ealge fuzor) If you drew Botonica then please draw how these would look and try to get more beast in the transformers animated mostly the ones labled above thanks and very nice stuff.

ReplyDelete@Setinal-Pax: The sigils aren't anyone's faces, though in G1 they resembles Shockwave and I think Hotrod alot more then the leaders of each side.

Because after the
ReplyDeleteGreat War, the "Bumblebee type" protoform mold was a very popular low energon consumption model.
It's also because all these bots had the same or similar molds in G1. Duh.

With Botanica: I looked her up and I understand now.
I don't understand why everyone is obsessing over shockwave being so tall because i have two theories one he could have used the stolen magnus hammer to make himself more powerful or he could just be the same size as megatron who is only slightly taller than the other decepticons because the only "regularly" sized decepticon in the pic is slapper because flips and sundor are both soundwave minions Mr. wyatt please tell me which teory is closer

ReplyDeleteIt doesn't have anything directly to do with Beast Machines, but there may be some thematic similarities.
ReplyDeleteNo Omega Prime. The design on Sari is supposed to look like the Matrix, yes.

Why does she have so many powers and abilities? What happened to her hammer and blades? Why did the allspark chose her? Will the autobots on cybertron accept her and make her an official autobot? Or will they regret her for being a techno-organic freak (at first)? Please! I beg you for some answers! I really want to know about her! In all transformers series she has been my favorite character!

Hey Mr. Wyatt just please tell me if I'm close to guessing what sari is: she is cybertronian but her protoform was like a size of a human so is it possible that her protoform was unstable and it came from another race? actually that theory was in my fanfiction.
