Now that we have been officially announced, I thought I would go ahead and post some Transformers drawings I did a few years ago. Somewhere around 2002-2003. I have been a huge fan of Transformers since the beginning. I have hundreds of the toys and just about every book and comic from here and from Japan. I also have TF drawings I've done over the years starting when I was about 12. Someday I'll have to dig up the really old ones, but for now, something from a little more recent time.

Most of the above drawings are just random heads that I made up, not based on any existing characters. Below are some Beast Machines Optimus Primal.

*Note: none of this has anything to do whatsoever with Transformers: Zone, I just couldn't think of a better name for the post.

That BM Primal is really great!
ReplyDeleteWhat really great is that it would be perfect to be animated.
Nice stuff Derrick! The Optimus Primal looks really good. Some of the robot heads remind me of Gobots. The one looks right out of Gundam. Very slick!
ReplyDeleteSweet.
ReplyDeleteThat one on the bottom left looks like The Flash... well, you know, if he were a Transformer.
Optimus Primal.... :)
ReplyDeleteNice work Derrick! I love the designs for the new show so far! My son and I are really lookin' forward to it!
ReplyDeleteThat's so great! One of my biggest hopes for this new show is that fans of the original Transformers, having now grown up with kids of their own, will want to watch the show with the next generation of fans.
ReplyDeletetrust me. when our kid (the first one on the way) is old enough... they're gonna watch it all!
ReplyDeletedude, youngberg dropped your name on a IGN interview. they misspelled you name though. One more thing master of transformer lore, YOU ROCK!!
ReplyDeletederrick!
ReplyDeletenobody is better suited for this gig! i'm so looking forward to seeing this on the small screen.
i'm on here now too, look me up sometime, man:

ps: you hook up with justin yet? he moved to LA recently...
I like the old crusty Transformer head. I am not knowledgable in the Transformers' universe, so I do not know his name. I will refer to him as "Crusty".
ReplyDeleteDerrick... I just saw the preview from the SDCC. If I see you ANYTIME in the near future I'll giving you a hug. Your designs are FREAKIN' AWESOME! Holy S***!!! That was so beautiful. The Dinobots look great too! The little girl character, her bike or scooter transforms into a rocket pack? Sweet. You definitely got the spirit of the original in this series. WOO-HOO!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteoh yeah the website that had it...
ReplyDeletewww.enewsi.com
Great designs!
ReplyDeleteThese are so freakin' bad ass!
ReplyDeleteGREAT! :D
ReplyDeleteYou drew Jhiaxus from G2!!!! Splendid, never enough piccies of him out there!
ReplyDeleteIf you give us an Animated Jhiaxus, I will worship you as a god. I mean this.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a while back after the Dinobot concept art you said we'd see that four-armed design make an appearance.
Is that Animated Waspinator? (The toy, not the one we've seen so far in the show)
Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteDerrick, did you design the face of universe powerglide? That drawing on the top right looks suspiciously like the toy design. Or maybe they "borrowed" the design from your blog....
ReplyDeleteIt was Hasbro designer Bill Rawley who did the new Powerglide. It's probably less likely that he was looking at my blog then we were both looking at/remembering similar past TF designs.
ReplyDeleteI can see that. Just noticed a big similarity and was curious. Both head designs are great!
ReplyDeleteit would be cool if Optimus primal appeared in TFA
ReplyDeletewas it him at the endof Predacons rising?
is that to left one the inspiration for longarm prime and i know you said that they are not based of anyone but that middle one looks a variation of g1 blurr and le very bottom one is kind of like optronix
