TFA S3: CHIN ON!

Fear not Transfandom, I have heard your desperate pleas! I know the recent batch of leaked designs have all had shockingly, Earth and Cybertron shatteringly minuscule chins. But please do not despair! As we speak, I am working 'round the clock to develop new bigger, bolder, more powerful chins.

These new chins will be so bizarre and enormous they could actually impede the transformation process. Chins so massive, they have to be seen to be believed.

These new chins could even be so unstoppably huge and heroic, they may have even the simplest of Cybertronians bellowing out the names of common Earthen table utensils.

Hopefully this meager posting of images will assuage your fears, and calm the terrifying nightmares of horrible chinless robots you've all been having lately.

I'm Derrick J. Wyatt, and I approve this message.

Oh thank Primus. I believe I speak for my fellow fans when I say that we can no longer worry about delaying our daily shutting down and recharging rituals at the very thought of chin-less bots rampaging the stars. Their minuscule chins would allow their entire universe to collapse on itself due to improper chin support.

I like the guy right above the monoeye guy in the third picture. He totally doesn't even need a body. Other robots should carry him around like a tote bag.

Man, awesome. That one guy is totally wearing DC supervillain Brain Storm's ridiculous hat.

Season 4 of animated should totally take Transformers to the next level! We've had headmasters, targetmasters and powermasters - now it is time for...

duh da da duuhhh

chinmasters!

Hmm, nice! :)

The one on the upper left of the last picture (big blockhead with small face) kind of reminds me of Jhiaxus from G2 - also of Darkseid too, but that's no surprise as Jhiaxus kind of looks like Darkside as well...

And is that Screw Head, the Gobot? Man, I'd love to see some Gobots thrown in as cameos in the show...

If those chins were any bigger, there'd have to be a Bruce Campbell cameo!

Thanks for sharing, and excellent work as usual!

I 'ALSO' would like to see Go Bot cameo's in the show. ;) Screw head, to Crasher/Fracture, Leader 1 (hasbro owns the name), Oil Slick just needs a repaint, and Coptor would be cool also.

Thanks Derrick Wyatt for showing us these, and all the other images like G1 based Prowl concepts! This blog is great & im here staying tuned. lol

There is definitely a Tor and a sort of half-Crunch-half-something else there, but all the rest of the guys are pretty much nobody in particular, with stuff like the Powerdasher drill head or a Brainstorm type helmet thrown in. So, no Jhiaxus in that batch. I did do a Jhiaxus drawing way back, and I put it up in a July 2007 post.

http://derrickjwyatt.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

As you can see, Jhiaxus's chin is so freaking massive that he has to divert Energon directly from his primary processor into his chin via power conducting cables. That's pretty impressive!

I also really love the idea of Tote-a-tron, the evil carry all. Maybe there is a bowling ball of doom stored within him.

First of all, thanks for posting designs of characters and concept art for transformers animated. It's interesting to see art in the "animated" style which I very much enjoy. Secondly, I went to the part of the site that had a pic of Jhiaxus amd Beast Machines Optimus Primal. Have you drawn any other Beast Machines characters in the animated style like Tankor (who happens to be my favourite transformer)?

I am in love with the Bob-Omb-skullhead-collar-and-license guy on the third page. I can't think of any possible character he might be from a previous storyline, although he strikes me as a great sidekick for Cannonball the pirate from TF:Cybertron.

What I'm wondering is, are those vestigal arms on Waspinator the ones you said were going to be on Lockdown? Just a thought...

Derrick, I was a little disappointed to see that the new Wasp figure is not the Cybertronian hotrod from Autoboot Camp. I thought it was cool and clever how he was designed as a Bumblebee remold. I'd been hoping we'd get a Cybertronian Bumblebee and Cliffjumper out of this. They were awesome designs.

Are there any designs you hoped would get figures that didn't? Think Hasbro'll ever consider doing the Cybertron BB/Wasp mold? It's probably my favourite character design on the whole show. I love the curved shoulders. Reminds me of BB's saucer mode in G1.

5:34 AM
Blogger Derrick J. Wyatt said...

Rodimus has already been colored.

Yep, Waspinator got Frankenstein-Lockdown's tiny arms. I knew I would find a place for that somewhere! It's also a GREAT looking toy. Waspy is one of my top favs, and I am every bit as pleased with him as I was with Swindle.

There is always a chance that the guys at Hasbro will want to make the Cybertron Bumblebee at some point. He is a very popular character after all. We design most every character in the show with the Hasbro team to have a transformation that would actually work for a toy too. If the Cybertron mode characters prove popular, you can bet you will see more.

Univerzzze may hate Wazzzpinator, but fanbazzze generally lovezzz Wazzzpinator.

I have a question about Spittor's robot mode. Are you going with the somewhat upright posture of the normal and Transmetal Spittor, or the hunched over TM2 Spittor? Because, to me at least, both Waspinator and Blackarachnia seem to be something of a hybrid of their normal earth forms and Waspinator's Transmetal toy and Blackarachnia's Transmetal 2 body.

10:02 AM
Blogger Derrick J. Wyatt said...

Ha ha, no. That's not Unicron. I love the original Unicron design.

I would say Spittor's robot mode is also a little of both (and maybe even a bid of the anime Diver too). He is pretty top heavy and hunchy. I like to look all all previous versions of a character and use the elements I like best.

Okay, first let me say that math is not my best skill. But I ran the figures on a calculator and I get 13 (episodes) x 3 (seasons) = 39. Plus the three episodes of "Transform and Roll Out" would give you 42. Right? Either way, season three is a normal 13 episode season.

DOH! (in my best Homer Simpson voice!) That's the last time I wail through a posting while I've got 10 other things going on at once... Sheesh! :P on me!!!! hahaha. Alright so now that Season 3 is finally "official," can we start asking you about what you've got in the works for season 4?! :)

Oh, if you could delete that previous question of mine, and save me the embarrassment, I won't hold it against you! :) good grief! :)

Gosh, those all look like so much fun to draw.

You've got to redesign Headmaster for Season 3/4. A Headmaster 2.0 resembling a certain mech would make GOD of the character... Or his gimmick, at least.

One of the ones in the first is a potential Fortress Maximus (Centre-Right). Also, the 2nd pic has an evolved form of Space Barnacle (Top-Left). My all-time fave has to be the center-top-right one in Number 3. (OMG! IT"S UNICRON!!!!!!!!)

Robots are fine and all, but where's our next generation Professor Princess? Perhaps she can work together with Henry Masterson and become the Head Mistress!

Also, the latest season of Heroes has really made me think we need a Slo-Mo vs. Blurr episode in there somewhere too!

And, as always, Countdown. Diminutive Intergalactic Champion of Good! Deliver of Justice! Righter of Wrongs! Hero to Trillions! He could totally shout out flatware slogans, perhaps in the spirit of Alpha Quintesson he could just shout out, "Fork you!"

Wyatt, I was curious and was just hoping for an official answer:

Lugnut: One eye or five?

I've always thought of Lugnut as having five eyes. One main, and four smaller peripheral vision eyes. Although the other eyes are probably pretty dim, as Lugnut is pretty singularly focused.

Oh hey Derrick! Maybe you don't remember me but I'm the anonymous who suggested more ugly bots back at the FRANKENSTEINEN LOCKDOWN days.

I saw Strika, Spittor and BlackOut recently and I gotta admit that I'm EXTREMELY pleased with their sheer badassness and ugly faces! Keep on the good (or bad? I mean, they're ugly after all) work!

I really enjoy seeing some of these sketches. The designs you all have come up with are quite inspiring and I love that you work with Hasbro to bring toys to the market that are such spot-on renditions of their animation models.

I definitely look forward to new imaginings of our old favs. I don't know if you've seen any of Billy Badasses' stuff on the Allspark:

God I really wish I had your job, you know this right?

What with cyclonus showing up in S3, are we going to be seeing some Scourge and sweeps sooner or later?

Hmm?

Maybe a certain maniacal crowned purple renegade?

... just make sure they don't get rid of Megatron.

SPOOOON!!!

Also, if these chins will impede the transformation process, than it is high-time that CHINMASTERS were introduced into the series. These small robots transform into the chins of larger robots, thus allowing them to transform without their chin impeding them.

Not to one to dig up an old grave but there's been something on mind regarding the big chinned heads of the third image and I feel I need to voice my opinion.

Namely that Squared headed one at the top would work well as a version of Trailbreaker and that one next to him with the rivets poking out of his face plate almost reminds me of Sixshot. (He does have a ninja commander/consultant look going on)

Hello, Derrick!

My first time commenting here and i just wanted to say that i really love Transformers Animated. You and the Animated crew managed to create a show that is as good as Beast Wars, if not better.

Congratulations to all of you and thank you for working so hard to give the fans such a great cartoon.

It's a little off-topic from the "chin" subject(a big chin makes a real bot, that's what i always say), but i wanted to ask: is there any chance of another character from Beast Wars taking part on Animated?

I would love to see Rampage or Silverbolt.

Well, that's it! Thanks for your patience, and i apologize for my awful English. It's not my first language, and it's been a while since i last exercised it.

Cheers!!!
