Transformers Animated debuts in Japan!

Check out this AMAZING intro!

They kinda kicked our ass on this one!

  1. Holy effing ess, they killed that. Of course, it doesn't make a whole hell of a lot sense, but it looked amazing. Who is the shady, glowing, cloaked figure that shows up for a moment early on? And is there chance that the show could go on, a la Headmasters, if it's popular enough in Japan?

  2. I'm pretty sure the shadowy figure in the intro is the Animated Violen Jiger.

  3. HELL YEAH! That was beyond awesome! D,:

  4. Kinda? LOL

    Good stuff, though.

  5. tonight is incoherent screaming and flailing, oh yes.

  6. Yeah, but they give away a LOT of stuff!

  7. More like they totally killed it! Love that song. Imma have to get these episodes and watched them subtitled with japanese voices.

  8. My Japanese completely fails but were they using Optimus Prime instead of Convoy?

Also those poor Japanese missing out on the reveal of Omega Supreme's presence.

i wish they fill in the show where it left off. As sequel and more Cybertronian visit and more spark-in-beathed earth transfomrers on earth.

  10. It was so great to watch it in person on the day it premiered! X3 Seeing it in Japanese was quite the experience, especially the epic opening XD

@Tom: It's because the Japanese decided that they would build upon the success of the Bay movies and keep those cast names, which is why they changed, for example, Bulkhead's name to Ironhide. They made a reference to the original name, though, at the tail end of the show, when Bumblebee and Optimus were previewing the next episode.

  11. I like the American theme song better. The Animation's nice, but totally nonsense within the context of the show.

  12. Of course it's totally nonsense within the show's context. It's an anime opening.

Anyway, they earn like a billion awesome points just for having JAM Project do the theme, ignoring everything else.

  13. I love the fact it's the JAM Project doing the opening considering their works with other giant robots.

I'm glad they kept Lugnut's speech, it touched my heart. But I couldn't tell what the heck Blitzwing was spouting instead of Itsy Bitsy Spider...my Japanese isn't good enough to keep up with his crazy voice. :S

  14. Of course it's over the top: it's a Japanese OP! It wouldn't be one without it XD

Oh, by they way, I subbed the opening, in case anyone's interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVMY6SxFBmk

Knowing what the actual lyrics are make it even more epic X3

I think this just proves how much potential Animated truly had. It was great while it lasted.

Animated should have gone bigger mid-season 3, IMO.

So, what are the chances we'll see your take on the Otoboto family?

Who knows, maybe you could convince TakaraTomy to let you deliver it to them in person on air and get a free trip to Japan out of it.

  17. Man, that was just amazing. I was SO angry that Animated got canned ANYTHING else makes me happy.

That was way better than the actual show ever was! Good job!

As for the guys saying how its incoherent... it's really just robots looking cool... Not sure what was so hard to understand abt that.

That's like saying a music video doesn't have enough storytelling, it's a stupid thing to complain about. Internet...

  19. Don't sell yourself short. Awesome as that intro is, the US version still kicked butt of its own.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Seriously, when the show comes back, we need more awesomeness like this.

Hey, Derrick, you think you could draw Animated Violen Jiger in a non-silhouetted form?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anonymous8:22 AM

Yeah, go for it! Draw TF:A Violen Jiger if that becomes a desire!

The epicness of this intro reminds me of another epic japanese intro... that of the Japanese X-Men intro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWTad94mre8&feature=related

Anyways, I DO hope that the Japanese Fanbase for TF:A will be far bigger than the US... ONLY because (and this bears repeating) a 4th Season is desperately needed; a bigger bang for a good series which had so much potential.

  22. That was anime in a nutshell. Why so much Arcee and Ironhide. They don't make much of an appearance.

They should make a season 4 and send it straight to you guys. I guess it's pretty kickass to see your designs up n' running like that eh Mr Wyatt?

That was so anime that it almost hurt....in a good way! It was nice to see the Animated cast so.....animated for lack of a better word. Makes me wish more that you guys got more seasons. I was hoping for the (rest of the)Animated Combaticons.

And you should totally draw Animated Violen Jiger!

Hey, if we could get the japanese to produce a Second Season to Big O... maybe the japanese fanbase will be more than big enough to usher a 4th Season.. a bigger and better bang for a potentially great series: More plucked references, more revisioned/reimagined characters, more universe expansion, just... MORE!

  27. im pretty sure everyone figured this out already but sari's key is largley based off of the key to vector sigma isnt it

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, the design is a bit. But that's it.

    Hey Derrick, quick question.
Who were these two crowd-filler fembots from Endgame Pt II http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Image:Animated_females.jpg modelled after?
The brown one almost looks like a female Heinlad...

  30. You'll have to wait for the second Almanac for those answers!

  31. Hi Derrick, I just wanted to let you know that some people on Livejournal put together a contest for the hottest 20 characters in fandom (that's ALL fandom - movies, shows, etc, not just Transformers) and TFA Strika made #18!

  32. Wow, that's pretty hilarious. They must like their fembots LARGE over there at the Livejournal.

  33. Oh, we do love her on LJ! (I was the one who originally nominated her, but I didn't think we'd get enough votes to be in the top 20.) If she ever got her own spinoff show, there are quite a few of us who would watch it religiously. :)

  34. Hey, Derrick, I was wondering...

With today(5/23) being the anniversary of Endgame Part II, would you tell us if there were any off-screen deaths in the episode? *cough*Porter C. Powell and Headmaster*cough*

    ReplyDelete
  35. No, I don't believe there were any off screen deaths. If you didn't see them die, they are still alive.

  36. Anonymous9:39 PM

How come no series will ever truly kill Megatron? Is it a hasbro rule or something lol. Lots of other characters die all the time, and take forever if ever to comeback(Not including Bayformers). I was really hoping we had seen the last of Megatron, but somehow he survived in endgame part two.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have to admit... yeah, that open pretty much tops every TF open I can think of, from any iteration of Transformers.

(Why am I posting here? I don't know. But here I am.)
