Con Sketches!

By popular demand! Here are some of the sketches I've done at the conventions over the summer. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to see me, and thanks to everyone who sent or posted scans of these so I could put them up here.

OMG! Love the designs for Leozack, The Fallen and Star Saber! These would have been awesome in the show! Depthcharge is really cool too! I really wish I would have asked you at TFcon if you were willing to make sketches.

All of them are great. I'll have to scan and send you the G1 Inferno and get my friend to send over their Octopunch and Sideswipe's as well.

The Khronoform watch is great and I can't thank you enough for drawing it. I need to really take a photo of them all around it lol

So much to say, trying to be brief. First love how Wellsian your take on Unicron turned out. And recognized Vector Prima right off the bat (head of the church of Primus as per your formspring replies.) There is just something wonderful about the watch transformer.

Ah! I had forgotten about G1 Inferno and Octopunch! I'd love to have them up too. I remember drawing Kris Carter's character, and Kat Nicholson's friend's fanchar too. I know most people get that the Unicron is kind of a joke, but I was surprised to see that some were so horrified by it! Lol! That's the kind of thing that happens when the fangirls kidnap you and make you do drawings for them until the wee hours of the morning.

Doing these kind of "on the spot" designs is really interesting. I usually labor over my designs for days trying to get everything just right (like I did with StarSaber and the Kronoform). Having to do them in 3 to 5 minutes is a totally different way of thinking for me. Definitely want to do more of this in the future!

I'm still in awe of the awesome Death's Head sketch you drew for me, Derrick! You, good sir... are a genius :o)

Great to meet you this weekend. Hope you can come back again soon :o)

Ahhh...the old Kronoform watch guys!

During the newer Microman 1999 era show, they had the updated version of those guys unfortunately named "Microtch"

Ah, I LOVE that design. Unfortunately I never got far enough in that series to see him show up.

For somebody that hates The Fallen, you sure made him look AWESOME!

Lol, I don't mind the Fallen as a character really. I even like his designs. I just don't like the concept of the 13 or multiversal singularities. Just don't work for me.

Oooh I see! Well, shame we didn't get to see him in TFA then, I'm sure you guys would do something worth of the robot devil himself even if it wasnt PRIMUS based!

Wonderful stuff, man!
I keep hoping to see how you would do Snarl and Sludge (asides from that one reference) in TFA... I really WAS hoping for a complete set of Dinobots.

Complete? I think there would have to be 3 more to be complete...

Cool drawings, especially Depth Charge. I know it is off topic, but was the evil girl from the prom in scooby doo mystery incorporated based on Gwen Stacy?

It's too awesome...
Vector Prime is kinda funny, Unicron actually does look like Orson Welles, and the Fallen would look absolutely terrifying in an actual episode.

I literally fell over when I saw Depthcharge. He was my favorite from Beast Wars when I was a kid, so here's my reaction:

Hey Derrick been a fan of your blog for a long time. What can a man like me do to get my hands on a sketch like this? I live in Puerto Rico so is almost impossible for me to go to Cons in the states...:( Maybe if you would consider commissions???

10:54 PM
Blogger Derrick J. Wyatt said...

Hi Juan, I know it is hard for a lot of people to make it to the cons, but so far they are really the only "free time" I have had to do sketches like this. I do hope at some point to have enough time to start doing commissions. The fact is animation is a very demanding job, that requires a lot of hours of work. So it's just tough to squeeze in even more drawing time.

6 Dinobots? who would be the 6th?

Dinobot or Paddles?

Blogger Derrick J. Wyatt said...

Well, they are both Rodimus Prime. The other one is just one I drew without reference, and I couldn't quite remember how his design went.

Thanks Derrick for the response. If by sometime you start off some commissions please post it on you blog. I hope I can get my hands on one...

Love the effort you put into your con sketches man! they're really awesome! As usual it makes me a tad sad that we'll not get a 4th season. i heard on WTF@TFW that there were some plans for a flash forwards episode? some rodimus prime, or rodimus magnus...

very nice stuff. hopefully we can drag to you australia one day!

Still hoping that a big enough japanese fanbase will give us the Season four that we've all been weeping for.

(As for 'Orson Wells' Unicron... if the actor himself didn't despise voicing 'an evil planet' before passing on, I'd say that this was a wonderfully-fitting tribute to them both).

The art from you is, sycophantically, always superb.

Aw man. When I heard about these on the WTF@TFW podcast I felt to stupid for not thinking to ask for one of these at TFcon.

Well anyway, just thought you might get a kick out of this. Real life models of your art can work sometimes too, right? It's even got your signature.
