This is very cool! Oddly, I can actually see how this model could transform into the Starship Enterprise... The body would be a good base, the legs could merge into the nacelles and the head would be the saucer section (the reflector on top would be the bridge). Sweet.

We'll have to vivisect the human. It may not be necessary, but it will be fun.

Cool, does this mean that Hasbro & Cartoon Network will make more new episodes of TF:Animated thanks to the new Transformers movie?

I have spent the last ten minutes arguing with a friend over this picture. She insists that he will kill me, horribly, especially if I'm the small one and possibly using brain-worms.

I'm arguing that he is STILL adorable. Especially his little glasses, hee! That is seriously the cutest thing since BA got her helmet knocked off. :D

You DO realize that I'm going to have to stick that in The AllSpark Almanc II, I hope!

Awesome! I'm glad sending the figure resulted in such an awesome carton design! Shame no more Animated is coming, would've loved to have seen him skittering around.

Shame the ROTF toy was a brittle letdown.

Excellent work. I can picture this imaginging of the character working out well in the TFA universe too.

I hope to see some more ROTF redesigns. Demolishor, Wheelie or Sideswipe maybe :)

I think they should do a spin off series of Animated, but focus on rodimus prime and his group, that way you can bring in new characters, and explore more into the whole team charr part, and then all of those characters (rodimus's team, team charr and new characters) can get alot more character development :)

just a thought, i thought'd it would be cool

anyway, this is awesome, keep coming up with more drawings please :)

His cuteness is a most fitting deception, a means to lure unsuspecting adoring females and males alike to his operating table before binding them, shoving nosesquids up their nasal cavity, and vivisecting them.

Which, of course, makes him all the more awesome 8D

But Primus help you if you're the small one.

I SEE YOU ALANA!! D8< HE'LL STILL KEEL J00.

Man, I wish I could see this guy fully animated. SO AWESOME!

He was one of my favorite parts of the movie.

"Ve must have ze brain on ze table! Chop, Chop!"

And I would just love to see an Animated styled Frenzy. :)

10:54 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I can imagine a Animated Barricade but a Frenzy would just look to similar to the Doctor/Scalpel. Please can you do Animated ROTF Jetfire and The Fallen. Also have a go at Devastator if he can be done so he looks menacing yet Animated.

I don't have any interest in drawing the twins, and we already did Jetfire in TFA.

first off let me say that pic is cool.that being said, i cant understand why TFA is not on the CN lineup anymore(new ones). It was/ is an awesome show. It seemed to me like it was going to go on a while longer with the introduction of all those new bots. i felt like devastator was coming soon when the consructico with the big head came on the scene. and it just dont feel right with out galvatron, cmon hasbro, cartoon network- ill buy the dvds and toys just keep em coming. COOL WORK MAN

What would this version of Scalpel turn into?

2:40 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

We must haff ze brain on ze table, chop chop!
Dude that's awesome! Scalpel was probably one of the most awesome designs in the whole movie and the "Animated" Treatment made him so much more awesome and bug-like in every good way. I would love to see more ROTF characters get Animated....no, not the promotions to get kids to exercise, but the Animated that was cut far, far too short.

Personally, I'd like to see Ravage animated.

This is why we need Transformers Animated: Victory(Derrick came up with the name, not me). Speaking of which, if the next TF show turns out to be a sequel to Animated, would you redesign the characters? Just asking your personal opinion.

Yeah, I like Long Haul. It would be cool to splice all the different versions together.

1)I heard Reflector was/were planned for Animated. Why was/were he/they cut and what role did he/they have?

2)Reflector- He or They?

3)There was heavy rumors of an episode called Downtown Blackout, did this ever exist? If so...

A)Why was it cut? And...

B)Will we ever see it

4)While you're doing drawings you should think about drawing the coolest TF ever! ASTROTRAIN!!!!

6:13 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Does he still turn into a microscope?

2:31 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

You should do one of ROTF wheelie, jetfire and optimus, maybe the fallen himself?

2:43 AM
Blogger Derrick J. Wyatt said...

You can read about what Reflector's role is in his Tech Spec in the TF Collector's Club magazine.

There was never any episode called Downtown Blackout, that was just a really lame fan rumor.

Microscope, of course.

TFA already has Optimus and Jetfire. Wheelie would be based on his G1 self, not at all Bay style.

9:50 AM
Blogger Sam said...

Beautiful redesign Derrick! I Love it! You streamlined him, cut out the busy mumbo jumbo and gave him more personality!

8^)

I would love to see you draw every damn transformer (and robot for that matter - Voltron??) Also I vote Yes on proposition Long Haul.

10:57 PM
Blogger Renee said...

Urrrgh G1 Wheelie.

but now for a very important question, that several inquiring minds wish to know.

If you do get around to drawing Frenzy, will he be blue?

9:30 PM
Blogger Weasel said...

I honestly can't tell if that's the cutest thing I've ever seen or the creepiest. In either case, he's full of awesome and win!

2:53 PM
Anonymous GWolf said...

oooh, now that is nice.

He'd be a great anti-Ratchet.

Oh, and something I've been wondering for a while. If the series had continued, do you think they'd have brought in a new villian, like Galvatron or Nova Prime or something?

5:43 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I was wondering if you had seen the movie style Lockdown figure? I aslo wonder how you feel already seeing your characters in non animated forms?

1:28 PM
Blogger Cyberspace Paladin said...

Proposition Long Haul? Is that what they're calling it now? Well, I agree... Hey, what about Jolt or The Fallen? And would a potential Animated Scorponok be more like Beast Wars or G1?

5:14 PM
Blogger Derrick J. Wyatt said...

That's a tough choice. I love both G1 and BW Scorp pretty equally.

2:36 PM

This is really cool. Love how he looks like a techno bug.

Derrick, My friend at mechacon was lucky enough to talk to The voice actor of Optimus Prime. He said something about a project for animated that was considered a "hush-hush" in quote. Could you shine a little light on this "hush-hush"?

7:04 PM

wow that looks so cool!! really like how you did that adaptation from the movie style to the animated!!

hope you can consider on do movie Sideswipe and Smokescreen (to not say Jazz because there one) in animated style X3 I so want to see them ^-^

mr. wyatt, sir have you got a deviantArt account? it would be really cool to put all your arts and for us fans to look them and tell you how amazing they are

This guy was one of my favourites in the movie, so its awesome to see what you've done with the design.

I remember you said in an interview you wanted to include Blot, Mindwipe, Deathsaurus and sky bite into the show at some point.

So maybe someday when you have some spare time, You could maybe post some designs for these characters.

Can't wait to see more from you in ths future

I was wondering have you ever considered drawing Old Snake in animated style?

11:00 AM

I could SO see Scalpel working alongside a TF:A'd Tarantulas. Scalpel slicing and rebuilding things, and Tarantuals building and "growing things" (imagine a few large tubes, amongst them being one having a barely conscious Transmutate, and another... the "framework" for a big ol' Tripredicus... some freaky beetle/lobster version).

Autobots are always cool... but Decepticons are always the more interesting ones.

Also, I too liked the many incarnations of Scorpy too... movie version for its bugginess, and BW's version for his helmet-head and cyber-bee.

11:23 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh, Mr. Wyatt, sorry to be like Sunstorm, but brilliant, simply brilliant! I never really liked Scalpel in ROTF, but this is an epic win! Think he'd have a German accent in Animated too?

What do you think Animated Rampage or Breakaway... or maybe Chromia would look like?

5:22 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dammit, you guys at Animated always make the characters look so much better than their original versions.

Thanks again for the great ride Derrick (& co.), as a fan from the G1 days of childhood I have to say Animated was clear and away the pinnacle of Transformers to date - I just wish we could have got one more seasons worth of 'toons and toys out of it.
