Now that I've got your attention...

...let's look at some more of my toys! This time, from the other side of my office.

Deathsaurus, Overload, and Liokaiser oh my!
Most of this stuff I wish I owned.

Although speaking of Overload.
Is it true that He/She was the inspiration for Female Starscream's deco?

I read it on TFwiki.net, but I want to hear it straight from the source.

Sweet Primus, that's a lot of toys! You weren't kidding when you said your office was a Takara Wonderland. And do I spot some Dr. Zoidbergs on the left bookshelf?

Oh I see you've got Tank Drones.

They're very nice for such little toys, don't ya' agree?

Yeah, the female Starscream clone's pallet was inspired by the teal, purple and grey of Overlord.

I do agree about the Tank Drones! I just wish I had a show accurate Ultra sized Tankor to go with them.

And yes, those are Zoidbergs over there on the other shelf.

Wow. Wow.... Wow.

Did anything fall during our last little earthquake? That's quite a lot of plastic you got stacked up there. :O .

Not one thing fell! And it was the longest quake I've experienced since I moved out here in '99.

Squeezeplay!

Man I miss the Headmasters. Truly one of the strangest gimmicks ever but I'm happy every time they revisit it.

They still haven't settled on a name for Girlscream? Or is that Activator Dirge toy with the completely different color scheme supposed to be her?

Derrick, you got so many and I wonder will you notice if some went missing? hehehe Keep the photo coming!

Speaking of the female Starscream, any chance we're going to see a redeco or remold of that one? Perhaps it's out of your jurisdiction, but I figured seeing as you've been in the business of throwing us bones lately, it wouldn't hurt to ask. I love the character, even more now that I know her colors were inspired by Overlord (A TF I spotted in person MISB in a store window in Greece; an unexpectedly triumphant moment).

Whilst the Female Starscream topic is still hot: I was wondering, Derrick, if the team ever had a name in mind for that particular clone?

In fact, to expand the question slightly, did you ever have names in mind for ANY of the clones? It was always obvious enough that the clones' colour schemes were based upon those of the G1 Seekers such as Skywarp, Thundercracker, Sunstorm et al, and Hasbro seem to have taken that as a cue to apply those names to the toy releases of the clones (even adding Dirge - don't know where he fits in), but was that ever your intention? Did you ever think of the purple and black coward clone as being Animated Skywarp, or was that just a leap made by Hasbro beyond your actual intent?

I guess I'm just asking because, to this pedantic fan, the "official" names given to all the other clones has lest Female Starscream as a slightly annoying anomaly. Can you shed any light? :)

Right now none of the clones have individual names, mostly because they are just fragments of the original Starscream's personality. There are no plans to change that for the time being. The color schemes are obviously homages to all the original seekers, so in some ways I do think of them by their original G1 names. I did Thrust and Dirge colors too, but we didn't end up using them in the show. Those colors are sort of the basis for the Activator figure.

Whether or not the female Seeker will be made into a toy is probably a better question to ask our friends at Hasbro.

Sigh... If only Hasbro had made a more show accurate Tankor (they had the head, colour and body wrong). The Beast Wars Returns Tankor is nice, but I still wish there was another Tankor toy out there (that does the character justice).

Well, when it comes to the female, two things come to mind in terms of her character:

1. She's got the most personality of all the clones, and is clearly the smartest and most capable.

2. She has a different voice actor, which means there's no real reason for her NOT to have a name (as budget isn't really a concern in that case).

Unless she's a clone based off of Starscream's encounter with Prof. Princess as documented in "The Arrival" #2.

Well, with some retooling, that might be possible. I mean, we got the original Seekers from Starscream just getting repainted or with some minor retooling. Just thinking of what her name would be is baffling, she doesn't seem like she has the ego to call herself "Overlord" nor do I think Megatron would be too willing to let that happen.

Good points.

I would want to save the name Overlord anyway. Even though there is a slim to none chance we would ever use it. But just in case, you never know!

They could, however, name her Override, which is awfully close to Overlord and has been used for a femmebot in the past.

...But it's not a Seeker name so I doubt it, ahaha.

It still mystifies me how you manage to crowd all these guys together w/o knocking over any of them in the process--much less how they survived an earthquake w/o toppling. My shelves aren't 1/4 that crowded, and I manage to knock over stuff half the time I shuffle figures around, switch them out or add some.

Oh, if you're interested, a little white glue or gluestick should take care of that peeling sticker on Liocaesar. Just apply and then hold the sticker in place for a minute or two. Unfortunately, as far as I can find, Reprolabels doesn't have a Liocaesar set yet, or even just Leozak.

Thanks for the advice, Doug. There are a bunch of guys who are in pretty desperate need of sticker repair.

I knock stuff over too. Marty's office is right next to mine, and I often imagine him rolling his eyes as he's listening to an avalanche of plastic followed by a lot of swearing.

I'm the guy who mentioned how we got the original seekers and I'm rather curious about something toy-related and you; are you very fond of how accurate the Animated Figures are to your designs of them? I mean, they are both show-accurate and you helped create the designs so I imagine it'd be pretty awesome having them in plastic form after figuring out what they look like.

And I'd also like to say that the G1-ish Purple Animated Shockwave looks awesome! I plan to get both but still. And one last question: You mentioned you also had a Thrust and Dirge color for Starscream's model, did you have any particular aspects of Starscream's personality you wanted them to have if they were used in the show as clones?

Hello - Just wanted to say how much I love your job on Animated! I'm a Transformers artist too (mostly on comics), and I find your style incredibly inspiring -I think Animated it's the best thing to happens to Transformers tv shows since Beast Wars!
As for the toys...your office looks a lot like mine - similar preferences about toys too ;)
Keep up the great work!

Hello Derrick! Is there any chance you may post a complete look at your collection, perhaps here or on the TFW2005 boards? Thanks for all the love you put into TF Animated.

Everyone comments about all your transformers, and NOT ONE ever noticed your Battle Beast figure: Pew-trid Skunk: the gas-mask gives it away!

I LOVE the Battle Beasts!!! I still, somewhere, have Diving Duckbill and Ossified Orangutan. And it's a shame we never got the Japanese Shadow Beasts (I would've SO wanted the centipede one; Shool, or maybe Jeerer Monkey JUST because he's a Proboscis Monkey).

P.S.: The Rock Lords get a quick cameo, but not the Battle Beasts? They were even shown in a Japanese episode of Transformers, to the best of my knowledge.

I had a Blackarachnia d- action figure too! 8D But... then I lost her (or she ran away) BUT then I got a Blitzwing toy! 8D
(He's a mess now since it's hard to transform him..... even with the instructions)
