Turn back now! Spoilers ahead!

Schrödinger's Blurr.

Looks like this is the end!

Or is it?

Maybe there is a loophole?

*design by James Lim

I tried to give Blurr a way out by putting his still beating spark into the compacted cube design. Though it wasn't visible in the final animation of the cube, let's assume it's in there. So at the point Longarm Prime hands it off to CJ, Blurr is probably in severe stasis, but he is still alive.

So now the real question is, after Cliff tossed the trash down the chute, was the incinerator on? Or did the oh so compacted Blurr land harmlessly on to a pile of refuse?

The incinerator was off.

Then, it got turned on at the end of the day and Blurr joined the Well of All Sparks.

Derrick the next time you want to give us a spoiler on your blog, try to make it something a little less painful to look at.

I know people were constantly asking you about Blurr but all I can say from looking at that image is: OUCH. That had to hurt.

Still, maybe he IS still alive. But then that makes me question the idea that if a Transformer in this series can survive being compacted, then what can't they survive at this point?

Eh, I'll live either way. I can't really care about Blurr as a character; he was awesome in action, with his super speed, but he didn't have any character defining moments outside of giving exposition really, really fast. Plus I thought his "death" was done incredibly well; I haven't seen a scene like that in a cartoon show in quite a while. Kudos.

Oh for a clip of Blurr from the future coming back in time back to the future style with the flame trails due to increased speed from timewarp to warn of the approaching doom from a bigger threat than the decepticons....dun dun duhhhhhh!.

And for the fact I want an episode called 'Blurr 2: Electric Boogaloo'

Oh holy night, ow! I'd almost rather think he just died!

This is the most messed up death in "children's" media since Augustus Gloop's mom walked out of the chocolate factory holding a box of fudge. Why'd he get the axe? On the other hand, I guess it lends credence to the old squishing-death-trap, that for once the hero didn't cleverly escape.

Poor Blurr... He was such a pretty robot...

Honestly, this episode helped me to believe that all bets are off - characters can die now. As much as I hate Blurr being dead (he's so awesome), some version of unfixability makes the events seem more real.

As a compromise, why not bring him back in an extremely reduced capacity? Like what was done with Omega Supreme; maybe his spark powers a Diagnostic Drone type body - enough to live, but he'll never regain his former glory.

'course, you probably already thought of a much better idea.

It really was a hooking scene, though. When he manages to push that one wall a little bit, you believe he's going to make it, and then....whaam. He's dead. It just makes it even more scary when Bumblebee gets stabbed, and me and my siblings we're crying "Why is everyone dying?! Nooooooo!"

Okay Mr. Wyatt, I'm going to get deep on you.

So you had me(us) In fits of tears, only to learn he is still alive? Or was still alive, only to be melted down into slag? I loved Blurr since the beginning and learning that Characters are going to get killed off, flashes me back to the '86 movie.. Don't get me wrong, I very much love the work you do, what you all do. But, isn't the whole purpose of a cartoon is to escape the reality that is already killing us, only to see more death? Only to despair more? Forgive me for going all Anne Shirley, here.

The world is a hard and cruel place as it is in any reality, even the realities of a cartoon. Reality is, good and bad guys die, there is no such thing as immortality, in the mortal world. We have to accept and move on, but to create something, then rip it away once you've clung to it, does it teach you to fear love? Does it teach you to accept that you can't always be happy, that you must suffer, before you can smile? Or does it teach you to smile through even when life gives you lemons? To add sugar and ice?

There are tales that one man can make a difference, but is it really true? That one being can move so many souls, to invoke change? I believe it is, Imagination is one of the most powerful abilities we posses. People sharing it, and letting people see your point of view, can make a difference, question is..is it for the Good? Or the Bad?

Yee~! Blurr's kinda... somewhat... okay, very smushed but sort of alive! Yay! That makes me giddy happy. As much as some people want to complain about him coming back and such I have an odd feeling that even if the poor speedy guy got rebuilt and his surviving spark got transplanted that he wouldn't remember anything.

The spark isn't a memory storing thing. It's the heart/soul. His head was smushed. We got ourselves another Arcee case. Still. Yee~! Blurr's got a somewhat better chance of survival. :3

1:23 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

"What can't they survive at this point."
Having their spark _extinguished_. Murder is an even more terrible crime if your race is practically immortal unless someone ends you.

Also, his spark may survive, but all his hardware is currently non-functional. (Infact, I'm surprised there's enough left there to actually support his spark) _If_ Blurr returns, he shouldn't be able to remember much of his previous existence. Certainly not enough to threaten "Longarm Prime".

1:58 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

At least he got a better finish than Beast Wars Terrorsaur and Scorponok...bye-bye Blurr.
I thought killing Blurr like that was a pretty good move plot-wise...that super-speed just made him too powerful, there was no way they could keep him in without neutering him and still have the 'cons pose any real threat - just remember how he takes down the Screamer clones with the stasis cuffs in the Season 2 finale. Doing it this way just shows how deadly Shockwave is and gives a well-thought-out end to an awesome character.

2:12 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

He could possibly be alive. I`d say that if he was supposed to come back it would be in a very unlikely season 4 but I like the idea of him being between dead and alive kinda like Omega so its not so bad!
(No that I hate Blurr I like him, well . . . In animated anyway.

lol someone is in worse shape than starscream for once. I have come to the conclusion that all the people running the shows hate starscream. I was really hoping he would get his body back, but that does not look like its going to happen. Still love the series. Suprisingly Ratchet is my favorite autobot, and I think it is because of your great characteriszation. Not since beast wars has their been so much depth in the characters.

Yeah, the dramatic impact is way better when he's Gone Forever, if not actually dead.

If there's a DTV or something for the 10th anniversary of Animated, you can bring him back then. But for now, it's way more impressive, dramatically, that he actually died, no for real.

8:17 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well, I was a little surprised that Blurr got crushed into a cube as well...but Shockwave is very logical and very dangerous....so running into those tunnels wasn't very smart but, if the incinerator was on, I think it'd probably be best for him to be dead...I mean, first he'd get crushed into a cube and then he'd be melted, that would just suck. And with the Bumblebee thing, I swear I actually asked myself out loud "Why Univerzze hate Bumblebee?" I guess it mistook him for Wasp and/or got bored beating on Tutorbot.

9:33 AM

I admit torturing starscream is funny, and I loved his parts in transwarped(with the exception of not getting his body back). I would still love to see him win just once. Interesting that you had the loophole set up, Derrick, but while I regret his loss from the cast (for Mr. Moschitta's sake, if no one else's), I side with those who feel that Blurr's demise retains more impact if it's actually a demise. I imagine he could be brought back in some fashion without diminishing that impact much, and I won't begrudge anyone the enjoyment if he is resurrected, but the dramatic impact of his death would still be reduced.

2:01 PM
Blogger Unmarried Housewife said...

Starscream's been my favorite since day one waaaaay back in the 80's during G1. All the best Starscreams throughout the years were the ones thrown through the scrapper a few times in life and had to rebuild themselves, losing a little sanity as they went.

TFA Starscream doesn't seem to have gone through much yet. He's quite spoiled. The Seeker hasn't been beaten down hard enough yet to get that edge that makes him so unique.

We only had a glimpse of his potential when his train plan failed that one episode. Sure it ended with him cuffed in a rather humiliating way but before that, wow. He was entering the realms of badass in those moments.

2:28 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

It may have been said otherwise, but it sure seemed like a tribute to one of MANY Waspinator squishings to me. Waspinator survived, why not Blurr? They've got to find out about the double-agent somehow right? Squishing the vessel that contains a spark, doesn't neccessarily KILL the spark. Though if it's written we're not supposed to SEE him again...I'd hate that. I've heard a major character was going to die, and Blurr (to me) is not a 'major' character. (I know who it is), but that's another blog/story.

Praise Primus, halliluyah!!! I must say I was devastated watching Blurr die. I understand what people were saying, though. We all thought Shockwave was awesome and cool. He's not cool anymore. We hate him, like we should. I saw Blurr's run and got excited, thinking he was gonna vibrate through the wall like the Flash or something. He didn't, and for days I was thinking of ways for him to survive.
For those who think he should stay dead, him returning at the end of the season, possibly the final episode, would be even more epic. Even if he only had the strength to last for a few more minutes, Blurr would rest in peace if he returned and finished off Shockwave. Or if he killed Shockwave and survived. That'd be cool too. As long as Blurr beats Shockwave. Personally.

Also, Starscream could get his body back if Wreck Gar has it with him during the Transwarp.

I got it kinda, I did hear of "Schrodinger's cat" before but I decided to not, figuratively, open my mouth without knowing exactly what it meant...but that really was clever now that I remembered it a day or so later. This is the guy who talked about "Univerzze hating Bumblebee".

We would totally need Perceptor or Wheeljack to explain this if Blurr is indeed simultaneously alive and dead and a maintenance/custodian bot(Maybe Huffer!) discovered him.

Holy crap! He is?! I just took a random guess. Also, I don't think he'd do wonders for morale on the battle field so there goes soldier.

I only just picked up the Jetfire/Jetstorm (fantastic designs) pack and read through the comic (also fantastic); so I'm sorry if this has been addressed and I missed it:

the twins have speech patterns and grammar that suggests an "accent", resembling how Russian and other eastern European characters tend to be written in text (such as "You are saving me, brother"). Are you able to comment on whether this was the intent? I know that the comics were more Marty Isenberg's department....

Ah, see, I read the Schrödinger's thing as more of a meta-comment. Blurr is simultaneously alive and dead, until some future writer makes a determination one way or another. Maybe in Season 4, maybe in an IDW comic series, maybe in a fan-club comic series. We won't know till it happens. In the mean time, well, he's both alive and dead in the imagination of the audience.

Even though he only had about 10 minutes or so of screentime, I instantly took a liking to him. I understand if you don't want to (or can't) give out spoilers, but if you can could you please tell me? I might be wrong on this, but are transformers that have allspark fragments in them immortal. Example: Starscream being killed over and over. If this is the case could the constructicons still be alive?

What a way to leave Blurr fans on the edge of their seat. If this issue does get addressed in this season and no other seasons are made, they will be forever tormented by whether or not the incinerator was on. Personally I never really cared for Blurr, but Animated sure made me care! You and the Animated team have done an excellent job on this series.

Just 2 questions though:

1. Will we ever see Swindle again?

2. Will we ever find out the fates of the other Starscream clones?

Yes, very good on picking up the Russian speech patterns. That was Marty's intent.

No. The entire point of my post is to promote a discussion among the fandom. I'm not going to be the one who opens that door.

No, Blurr did not die because he was hard to write.

Only Starscream is immortal, the other fragments created sparks, they are not kept alive by the fragments the way Starscream is.

Let's not assume that just yet. Although it'd be a waste if it were true. Another female Transformer even if she IS a Starscream clone and she gets killed off way too easily. And before she could even get an official name. (I don't care if she's colored after Overlord, you cannot seriously expect me to apply that name to a FEMALE. With the other 4 clones it at least made sense)

12:32 PM

Hello, Derek, while we're talking clones, is there any possiblity of a good version of Starscream (Second - or third - cloning attempt, with an unexpected result, perhaps) or even a stand-alone episode featuring an Animated version of Nemesis Prime. All kinds of weird things happen with those All-Spark fragments.

Make them cool enough (and I know you guys can do it), you can sell a lot of Prime (plus red sword) and Screamer (with remolded head) repaints.

OK, we may not get a Season 4, but one can hope.

I was excited for the Season 3 start. I had never watched any of the episodes on television until Transwarped. I had watched the Space Bridge episodes with Blurr and went out and got the toy. He became my favorite character of the week. I also grew interested in Season 3 when I found out that they were going to introduce Rodimus Prime, Hot Shot, Red Alert, and Perceptor.

I watched the episode last Saturday and was amazed that Rodimus Prime's team was defeated in the first few minutes. That bad feeling disappeared when Blurr escaped from the clones and ran to Cybertron. The rest of the episode was pretty much nothing when I saw Blurr get crushed. I could not believe what happened.

I understand what everyone is saying. I hope he lives to but this incident adds a darker tone to the series and points out that no character is safe from destruction. I am not holding my breath but maybe the Elite Guard will recognize the remains of Blurr and be able to get some fragments of data from it and track down Shockwave.

Besides, I love the Longarm Prime persona. I may get the Shockwave toy and display the Longarm mode! I also hope to see more Brawn, Hot Shot, and Red Alert!

Okay, for all those fans out there that say Blurr should stay dead because it makes Shockwave seem more evil, you have to see the next episode of Transformers Animated (saw it on YouTube). It has another example of Shockwave's evilness. I won't spoil it for anyone, but let me just say that after seeing the latest episode, I have ABSOLUTELY no doubt that Shockwave will do ANYTHING to keep his secret a secret and do whatever he can to stay online. Wyatt, you know what I'm talking about. So yeah, I definately think Blurr should be able to come back. He is one of my favorite characters in the show. Also, I hope we get to see more of Team Chaar, Rodimus, the Starscream Clones, Jetstorm and Jetfire (not a big fan of their voices. I would think they would almost sound like kids), and a lot more. But my biggest hope of all is that Blurr comes back.

This was the first time I've ever liked Blurr, and you people squash him into a cube! All my favorite characters meet with death or despair D: I'm bad luck!! *sobbing*

OH MY GOD. I haven't even watched season 3 yet and now I see this. What a terrible spoiler! PLEASE tell me this is not permanent!!!! Please....?

Poor Blurr. Can we have him found and rescued sooner rather than later? If the stupid key was working, I'd suggest sending Sari there and she accidentally falling down the garbage chute. Unfortunately, she used up the power in becoming supercharged, going on a rampage in Detroit, and newly dicing Bumblebee. Someone, find him and save him. Otherwise, there is no point.

P.S. Anyone notice how small Sari
protoform was? The protoforms in the Five Servos episode were normal transformer size. Why? Will that be revealed? Is she a prototype minicon?

He is not "definitely" dead. Just possibly. He was still bright blue when he was cubed and what are the chances he was incinerated instantly? Nothing is ever quick and effective in any goverment or company ever invented. It is the curse of buracracy. So, likely he is still on a pile of scrap while someone fills out paperwork in triplicate.

Oh Dang. I hope he's alive o.o You do an incredible Job Mr. Wyatt and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Someone was saying if Blurr was alive nothing would kill transformers
I have a very STUPID theory about why Blurr should be alive.

Think about it Blurr seems hollow and him getting crushed was his hollow parts and he is fine with a spark.

VERY STUPID I know but HE IS ALIVE

But also where did they energy from the key go? Did it go somewhere or maybe is it just being held ..Maybe there is still hope :3!! I REALLY don't want Blurr to be dead T.T!

It may just be me, but I find it disturbing that people insist Blurr not be dead. Let's assume for a moment that he's online. He's a cube, nobody knows he's a cube, and he's in a trash chute. If he's not dead, he's either "conscious" or "unconscious". If he's conscious, he can't move, can't call for help. If he's unconscious, he's effectively brain-dead. At best, he's a vegetable stuck in limbo, at worst, he's nobody can hear him scream, but either way, nobody's coming for him. I wouldn't want him to spend stellar cycles like that. I'd rather he be dead.

I'd like to add that even if the isotope doesn't kill Schrödinger's Cat, not feeding it or poking holes in the box will get it.

Hope Blurr comes back. He was one of my favorite characters.

I kind of imagined that while he was in this "compactor-induced" stasis, he was slowly trying to recover himself and try to do a very slow self repair. Does the Transformers in this series have the same ability to reformat their alt modes like what Bumblebee did in the movie to change his alt mode.

Blogger Derrick J. Wyatt said...

No. They can't change their form on the fly, they have to be reformatted in a CR chamber.

That was my very least favorite part of the movie.

I am having flashbacks to "Christine" here. Either way, I wish Blurr luck with however the story concludes, official comic or not. Either way, it's still a frightening thought. Hopefully he's unconscious. Because if that incinerator is off, and he's stuck in with all the other garbage and he's awake...he'd go bughouse nuts.

This was actually the first time I saw Blurr in action. Kinda depressing, really. Still is.

Oh, and I forgot this:

In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

-- Schrodinger's Moggy explained (Terry Pratchett, Lords and Ladies)

I recommend this guy's books, by the way.

If they ever bring Blurr back, even if he did lose half his memory, that would still be sweet!! Plus, someone might be able to help him get his memory back!

Will there ever be more to this series? Or is season 3 the end? Because it seems like a lot of things were left undone...

I hope Blurr is alive. Blur, Perceptor and Wreck-Gar
are my three favorite Autobots. I hope Cliffjumper found Blurr and transferred his spark to a protoform,
that's at least what I think happened. Although Blurr was compacted into scrap, his blue color remains. Unlike when Prowl and Jazz took that allspark fragment out of Starscream's head using the processer over matter technique. And when Prowl sacrificed himself. I wonder~

From what I've seen every bot or con that dies makes a funny noise then goes grey.... Blurr was still his lovely shade of blue, there for BLURR LIVES!!!!!!
Cliffjumper: But I incenerated him...
Me: NUUUUU!!!!! In some earlier Transformers shows the trash wasn't burned/melted, it was just thrown out into space!(litterbugs...) Sooooo.... Blurr's STILL alive!!!... and floating in space.... Maybe the science team( Wheeljack and Perceptor) will find him and find the spark thus building a new body(like what they did with Jetfire and Jetstorm) and revive him! 8D... it could work...

The incinerator was off and Blurr was left to rot in a garbage disposal building. Until someone finds him...hopefully.

Quite frankly, I love the Animated series Mr. Wyatt, but there are so many unresolved issues that just itch me. Like Prowl. What the heck was that about?? His death made me angry for some reason, and he isn't one of my favorite characters. Starscream, of course, comes back, because he can't really stay dead, can he? And there needs to be some serious Bumblebee vs. Shockwave super ultra mega grudge match. I really hope that season 3 isn't the end and that there's hope that it might start up again. Like, with more Decepticons, bigger battles. And can someone please stop making Wasp the universe's punching bag? Poor thing has been threw enough, even though he kinda did have it coming. I would love Terrorsaur to come into the show. And we need to see more of Cybertron! C'mon people! This is an alien planet we're talking about here! No rules! Let your imagination run wild! And if you don't have any ideas, I suggest checking deviantart out. Sure, most of the stuff you find their is wrong...totally...utterly...wrong...but us devoted fans have some pretty wacky ideas.

Hello!
I can understand, that draw litle spark on litle cube was to hard. And i'm glad, that i have internet and found this info(about Blurr).
But what about people who not have internet - for example children?!
It's not fair, right? Some knew that Blurr might be alive, and some one not just because someone cant draw a spark in cube.(((
I hope there will be 4season(or some kind of Painted movie?) and all mystery(about Blurr) will be solved =)
I'm counting on you! You make a great show, you cant spiol it!
Sorry for my baaad english.)

Yes, I started watching TFA way late. And I fell in love with Blurr. Then found out the show was cancelled (WHY???!??!). I am literally depressed that we don't get to see Blurr restored and that some people just write him off as dead or in that cube shape forever (OMG NIGHTMARE FUEL). If I could request something, if you ever get the feeling to do so, draw or write us a little something about Blurr being repaired? Just to cheer up all us fans and we will love you even more. Thanks for all your wonderful work!

I was late to the party and just recently watched TFA all in one go. I fell in love with Blurr and then found out the show had been cancelled (WHY??!?!?). I am literally depressed that we didn't get to see Blurr fixed/return and now have to think of him as dead or forever in a cube (OMG NIGHTMARE FUEL). If you ever have a leaning to do so, could you please draw or write something that shows how Blurr could have been saved and repaired? Us fans would love you even more. Thanks for all your incredible work!

I've noticed something; Earlier, Shockwave was contacting Cliffjumper when Blurr interrupted the whole conversation. It made me think; did Cliffjumper witness Blurr's report in its entirety, and therefore known that the cube he was handed was him? Shockwave didn't turn the screen off when Blurr came into the scene. Then I noticed that the screen was off. Had Cliffjumper heard enough and turned the screen off? Or did Shockwave cut him off and we just didn't see it?

I'm glad he's not dead, and that in the official comic Cliffjumper is shown carrying him around with him. I wish him luck afterwards, because really, poor guy. I hope that he would have gotten repaired at some point in the future.
